In July 2011 my Dad and three colleagues walked the Kokoda track. As well as being a fantastic physical challenge they were raising awareness for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders. This is pretty important to Kirsty and I as our son, Gilbert, has autism and our eldest daughter, Matilda, has aspergers. Dad and the guys did raise awareness, and $2700 for Aspect, which was Gilbert’s school at the time. Below are some of Dad’s photos from the trek.
Dad and the guys are embarking on a new adventure next month, down to Tassie to walk the South Coast Track. Please check out his blog and some of the links at Step Up For Autism.
I’m linking up with My Little Drummer Boys, Project Alicia, Moms Bookshelf and Twinkle In My Eye for Wordless Wednesday.

Congratulations. What a massive achievement. Great photos too.
What a great cause and awesome achievement! Your dad and his colleagues looks super fit! Well done!
Yes, my Dad is fitter than I am!
What a tremendous walk!! Cant wait to see the photos of the Tasmanian walk!
Me too!
That is amazing. Well done to your dad. What a great way to raise awareness and also get some life adventure at the same time.
My parents are also big on this type of community contribution. They haven’t done Kokoda yet (although they want to), but they have dug wells for a community in Manus Island and also built a community centre for a remote village in The Solomon Islands.
Both our parents seem to be very inspirational in their kindness and energy.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers

Thanks for dropping by, Leanne! It’s great to have inspirational parents. It makes me want to be inspirational for my own kids!
Awesome photo s- and what a wonderful achievement! I hear the track is pretty tough – your Dad must be very fit!
It is tough apparently, but my Dad works hard to prepare for his adventures. 🙂
My grandfather was based in PNG in WW2. Don’t know if he did Kokoda or not – but still interesting to see what it’s like.
What an amazing dad you have, and super fit obviously! Fantastic cause also. I bet you’re a very proud son x
Great photos Nathan.
Your dad is a champion.
Thanks for linking up
Your dad is an inspiration. I have so much respect for him and will always be proud to call him my father-in-law. I hope his upcoming walk can again help to raise awareness and understanding of autism in the community.
Truly inspiring!
Just amazing.
What a great achievement!
Your dad is awesome, Nathan! What a champion thing to achieve 🙂
